Overview

The program embraces a comprehensive, patient-centered approach, prioritizing individuals in the decision-making process and equipping patients and their families with knowledge and involvement.

During this course, you will delve into the fundamental aspects of physiotherapy, grounding your practice in evidence-based principles and applying them across diverse clinical scenarios and healthcare environments. These experiences encompass clinical placements in both NHS and private healthcare settings, providing valuable preparation for your future role as a physiotherapist. You will also gain significant exposure to supporting long-term condition management programs and working in musculoskeletal clinics, either within the university or the local community. Your learning journey will be enriched by the use of various facilities, including treatment rooms, rehabilitation spaces, a demonstration hospital ward, a skills laboratory, a strength and conditioning suite, fitness facilities, and a simulated residential environment.

Canadian students will undergo more than 1025 hours of clinical practice placements, guaranteeing that they fulfill the supervised clinical education hours required by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators for credentialing in Canada.

Upon successfully completing this accelerated degree, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This qualification will allow you to practice physiotherapy in the UK, should you decide to remain and work in the UK.

Admission Requirements
  • Honours degree in a relevant science-based subject in the last five years. Your previous degree should be in biological sciences, sports science / therapy, or a healthcare course with significant anatomy and physiology components. Students with non science-based degrees who have taken substantial science based courses may be considered on an individual basis – Please speak with a Physio Abroad student advisor.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4 point scale, B grade overall average, or 80% overall average.
  • Canadian High-School Grade 11 Math and English.
  • Personal Statement.
  • Academic reference.
  • Work or volunteer experience in physiotherapy (can be evidenced in your personal statement and will be discussed during interview)
  • Students selected based on academic profile, personal statement and academic reference will be invited for a video conference interview. 
  • Students who are given offers must complete a police record check (Canadian equivalent to Disclosure and Barring Services background clearing check) and provide satisfactory immunization records and declaration of health status (Canadian equivalent of the Fitness to practise and health requirements).
Admission Timeline

Applications are processed and evaluated as they are received, rather than waiting until a specific deadline to review all applications. As acceptances are granted, spaces in the program will fill up. It is advised to apply as soon as possible in the admission cycle in order to have the best opportunity to potentially secure a spot in the program.

Program Structure

Your academic year will consist of periods of classroom instruction intertwined with internal placements, as well as designated periods solely for placement activity. Both teaching and placements will occur from Monday to Friday throughout the academic year and may even involve placements outside of the immediate county, potentially elsewhere in the UK. The academic duration for the MSc Physiotherapy differs from the standard undergraduate timeframe, as it encompasses teaching, learning, and placement activities that continue into the summer.

International students with a student visa in the physiotherapy program are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic term. Exceeding the permitted work hours on a student visa constitutes a violation of your student visa and can result in serious repercussions.
