Canadian students will undertake more than 1025 hours of clinical practice placements. This will ensure that students will meet the supervised clinical education hours required by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators to become credentialed in Canada.

You will learn through a mix of interactive lectures, practical skills sessions, and small group seminars. Instruction will be delivered through both online and face-to-face methods. Practical sessions are designed to enhance physiotherapy-specific and professional skills, while seminars facilitate discussion and deepen your understanding of lecture topics.

Upon successfully completing this accelerated degree, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This qualification will allow you to practice physiotherapy in the UK, should you decide to remain and work in the UK.

Admission Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Biomedical studies) or a degree in an unrelated subject accompanied by relevant courses (e.g., biology, anatomy, physiology, etc.)
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.7 on a 4 point scale.
  • Canadian High-School Grade 11 Math and English.
  • Personal Statement.
  • Academic reference.
  • Demonstrated knowledge (e.g., through a research methods course) or experience with the research process.
  • Students selected based on academic profile, personal statement and academic reference will be invited for a video conference interview. 
  • Students who are given offers must complete a police record check (Canadian equivalent to Disclosure and Barring Services background clearing check) and provide satisfactory immunization records (Canadian equivalent of the Fitness to practise and health requirements).

Teaching

The MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) program is a full-time, two-year course, structured to include 45 weeks of learning each year to accommodate practice-based placements. You will complete at least 1,025 hours in practice placements, providing extensive experience across diverse settings to prepare you as a competent, autonomous practitioner upon graduation.

Instruction combines interactive lectures, practical skills workshops, and small group seminars, utilizing both online and in-person teaching methods. Practical sessions are designed to enhance both physiotherapy-specific and professional skills, while seminars facilitate in-depth discussion and comprehension of lecture content.

You will have scheduled meetings with your personal academic tutor at least four times in the first year and three times in the second year.

The University focuses on fostering graduate attributes that support lifelong learning and career readiness. Through a blend of independent study, teaching, academic support from Student Services and Library Services, and personal academic tutoring, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your progress, build a comprehensive profile of skills and experiences, and achieve success.

The MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) program spans two years and is organized into 45 weeks each year. Typically, students will engage in approximately 10-15 contact hours per week, which include a combination of on-campus sessions and online learning, both synchronous and asynchronous. The specific mix of on-campus and online instruction will differ by module, but students can anticipate at least 1 to 1.5 hours of online learning per week. Additionally, students should plan for 35 to 40 hours of study each week. Practice learning placements will account for 34 hours per week, leaving 3.5 hours for academic or placement-related study.

 

Independent Self Study

Beyond scheduled contact hours, you should plan for approximately 25 hours of personal self-study each week. This self-study typically includes engaging in online activities, reviewing journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects, conducting research both in the library and online, preparing coursework assignments and presentations, and studying for exams.

Independent learning is bolstered by a variety of top-notch resources, including The Hive and library facilities, the virtual learning environment, and a wide array of electronic learning materials.

2024-2025 International Tuition Fees: £21,700

Consequently, the University may increase tuition fees in the second year or subsequent years of a program, aligning with inflation and/or adhering to the maximum limits allowed by legal or governmental regulations. Canadian students may be eligible for student loans provided by the federal government through the Canada Student Loans Program (CSLP). Students may also be eligible for additional loans from their provincial or territorial student loan programs.

Canadian financial institutions offer student lines of credit for Canadians pursuing education abroad. Typically, a co-signer is necessary, so students should anticipate seeking a family member to serve as a guarantor.

International students with a student visa in the physiotherapy program are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic term. Exceeding the permitted work hours on a student visa constitutes a violation of your student visa and can result in serious repercussions.
